ASO agencies in Australia · September 2026
Australia has a tiny number of people who do App Store Optimization for a living and a large number of agencies that say they do. The search results are Sydney and Melbourne SEO firms with an ASO landing page, app developers who ‘also market’, and one or two long-running shops whose real business is paid media. Here is the test that separates them, and why most fail it.
Thinking about an Australian ASO agency? Let me give you the one question that ends most calls.
Gabriel Machuret · September 2026Here is the question. Which app did you, personally, take from unranked to a top-ten position for a keyword that matters, using organic changes to the listing, and what were the changes? I have asked it on calls with Australian agencies for years. A good answer takes thirty seconds: the app, the term, the title change, the screenshot test, the date it moved. The answer I usually get is a case study about a paid campaign, or a client the agency ‘supported’, or a pause while someone finds the right slide. The silence is the audit.
Australia is not short of talent. It is short of a market big enough to keep an ASO specialist busy. There are perhaps a few dozen app companies in the country with a meaningful marketing budget, and most of them either do organic work in-house or hire overseas. So the agencies that appear when you search ‘ASO agency Australia’ are, overwhelmingly, something else with an ASO page attached: Resolution Digital, Traffic Radius and their peers are SEO agencies; Intesols and Invent Better are app developers; and the one genuinely long-running app marketing agency, App Media, earns its living on paid search and social with organic alongside.
SEO agencies doing ASO is the most common pattern and the most predictable failure. The instincts are wrong in specific ways: a long, keyword-dense description that Apple does not index; a content and backlink mindset that has no equivalent in a closed catalogue; monthly ‘visibility’ reports built for websites; and no understanding that the first screenshot decides more installs than every paragraph of text combined. The team is good at Google. The store is not Google.
Dev shops doing ASO is the second pattern, and the conflict is built in. A studio that built your app and now ‘promotes’ it has a rebuild on the menu at every marketing conversation. Conversion low? A redesign would help. Retention weak? New features. Each is sometimes true and each is billable by the same people who told you it was true. Independent advice about your listing is structurally impossible from a company that would rather build version two.
Then there is the local-support argument, which is the strongest one an Australian agency has, and worth taking seriously. Being able to meet in Sydney during Sydney hours is real. But ASO is not a daily-contact discipline. It is a teardown, a rewrite, one test, a wait, and a handover. You need a few well-timed conversations with someone who has actually thought about your category, and that person does not need to be in your postcode to be on your listing. For most Australian apps the installs come from the US and the UK anyway, and the agency’s references are all local.
So here is what the market actually offers: paid media agencies who will do organic as a favour to win the paid account, SEO firms who will apply the wrong instincts competently, and developers who will recommend a rebuild. Against that, one consultant who does only the store, has audited over a thousand listings, and charges a fixed fee that ends. The teardown in the markets your installs come from. The rewrite. The first-screenshot test. The handover. On a call in your hours, with the person who does the work.
To be fair to Australian agencies: if you want paid search and social run locally with a light organic pass, and you value an in-person relationship, App Media is the sensible local call and its longevity is real. If you want your listing fixed by someone who can answer the question in the first paragraph in thirty seconds, ask it on your next call. Then send me the proposal and I will show you what it does and does not contain.
Whatever ASO agency in Australia you are talking to, the questions are the same: what ASO services actually contain, what they should cost, and whether you need an agency or a consultant at all. The individual agency reviews cover the named players.

Objections
There are a few excellent practitioners, most of them freelance or in-house, and most of them booked. The agencies that rank for the search term are mostly something else with an ASO page.
For paid media and relationship, fair. For the listing, the person needs to know your category, not your suburb. I take calls in Australian hours and I am the one on the call.
It is proof of longevity in a small market, which means serving every category to survive. Read the review on this site. Paid is the business; organic is the door.
Individuals can. Agencies rarely do, because the SEO instincts that pay the bills are the ones that produce keyword-stuffed descriptions and visibility reports. Ask for the first-screenshot hypothesis and see what comes back.
