Custom Product Pages: Match an iOS Page to User Intent
Plan an iOS custom product page around a distinct use case, a real traffic path and a measurement question.
By Gabriel Machuret · Editorial methodology
Define why the default page is insufficient
A custom page should serve a specific audience decision. Identify what someone arriving through the relevant path already expects and which evidence should appear first. If the same default message works equally well, another page may add maintenance without useful differentiation. Write the reason for the page before designing it.
Map the arrival path
Document how people will reach the page and how that path will be measured. Apple supports custom pages in its product and advertising ecosystem, including keyword assignments for search. Verify the current eligibility and setup in Apple’s documentation. A custom page should not be described as paid-only by default, nor should every organic term be assumed eligible without checking.
Make the variation meaningful
Show the feature or workflow relevant to the audience. Keep the brand recognizable and the promise accurate. Avoid creating many pages that differ only in the name of an audience. A page for a distinct use case should answer different visitor questions and show appropriate product evidence.
Separate targeting from experimentation
Routing a different audience to a different page is not automatically a controlled test. Audience composition can explain performance differences. Define whether the work is targeting, experimentation or both, and use the available tools accordingly. Record the asset version, traffic path and period behind any comparison.
Keep a page register
Maintain a list of active pages, their intent, owner, source paths and last review date. When a feature changes, check every page that mentions it. Retire obsolete variations carefully so campaigns and links do not continue pointing to an inaccurate experience.
A worked example
Illustrative example: a photo editor serves people removing backgrounds and people creating product images. A product-image page can lead with that workflow. A higher observed conversion rate would still need to be interpreted alongside the audience and campaign that sent visitors there.
Your next steps
- Write the audience and the question the custom page answers.
- Verify the current Apple setup for your intended traffic path.
- Create an asset/message map and measurement plan.
- Add the page to a maintenance register.

Questions and answers
“Are custom pages only for ads?” +
No. Current Apple documentation also describes search keyword assignments. Check current eligibility and setup before planning the rollout.
“Does a higher rate prove the custom design is better?” +
Not if the audiences differ. Treat targeting comparisons and controlled experiments as different evidence.
Turn your audit
into a clear plan.
Share your store URL, target market and the problem you want to solve. A fixed-scope engagement can turn the findings into metadata changes, a creative test and a handover your team can use.
