AppFillip is the kind of agency a lot of founders find on Clutch or GoodFirms when the London and New York quotes come back too high. Jaipur-based, founded in 2016, a full-stack menu from ASO to influencer campaigns, and monthly fees that make a Western retainer look absurd. I understand the appeal completely. What I want to do on this page is separate the part of that appeal that is real from the part that is a lower price for the same problem.
The real part is simple: labour in Jaipur costs less than labour in London, and an agency there can charge less for the same hours. If the hours are competent, that is a genuine saving and no amount of Western agency snobbery changes it. I have seen good work come out of Indian agencies and bad work come out of expensive ones.
The part that is not real is the idea that a cheaper retainer solves the retainer problem. A monthly fee, at any price, bills the months where the stores are quietly responding at the same rate as the months where the rewrite shipped. A low fee makes that easier to ignore, not less true. And a full-stack menu at a low price has the same shape as a full-stack menu at a high one: ASO is the door, paid and influencer are the room, and the report always has something moving in it even when the listing has not changed since month two.
There is a specific offshore pattern to watch as well. Low prices attract volume, and volume forces process: an audit template, a keyword workflow, a screenshot format, a report. At a certain price point, the only way to be profitable is to run every client through the same pipeline with a junior at the controls. The ‘number one full-stack agency’ claim is a volume claim. Your listing needs someone to think about your category for a while. A pipeline cannot afford that, at any price.
Put that next to one consultant whose fee looks higher per month and comes out lower per year, for the simple reason that it stops. The listing gets torn down, rewritten and tested once, properly, and then handed to your team with the reasoning attached. You talk to the person doing the work. The report contains what shipped and what it did to search installs, and nothing else. When it ends, your team can run the next round, which is the only way to make ASO genuinely cheap.
To be fair to them: for a small app with a small budget that needs a competent, standardised pass across ASO and some paid distribution, AppFillip is a plausible option and the price is honest for what it is. If your listing needs depth rather than a pipeline, or you want the work to end when it is done, the cheap retainer is just a slower way to overpay. Send me their proposal and I will show you what month four contains, and what the same listing work costs once.
